5 REASONS NOT TO GET ADDICTED TO MASTURBATION.



Masturbation centres around pleasing oneself physically. It is mostly common among men according to several studies, although in recent times, a large percentage of women has joined in as well.

Masturbation and Pornography are like two sides of a coin, this is why for the last decade, due to access of pornographic materials easily  on the internet, Masturbation has increased drastically.

There has been a lot of argument on whether masturbation is right or wrong. Those arguing on the side of the former did so on health grounds, saying that it 'Prevents Prostrate cancer, trains one's longevity during sex, helps those practising abstinence, prevents unwanted pregnancies and sexually transmitted diseases.

Whilst those arguing on the side of the latter did so on mostly religious grounds; making reference to scriptures like 1st Corinthians 6:18 which talks about 'staying away from sexual immorality and sin against one's body'. The bible however did not specifically address the issue of masturbation, instead, it collectively addresses sexual perversion and so the reason for all the diverse opinions formed by different individuals.

Since the human sexual behaviour has powerful hormonal and psychological, it is pretty easy to get addicted to masturbation and we will be focusing on reasons not to let that happen:


ERECTILE DYSFUNCTION:

Masturbation involves different sexual programmes in one's head. Due to the fact that most times, they are 'imaginary' programmes, their strategies and forms might be different from those used by the individual during sexual intercourse with a real life partner.

Due to this discrepancy, the individuals brain might become confused during intimacy with a real partner resulting to panic, anxiety- premature ejaculation and ultimately Erectile dysfunction. This is mostly common when the individual uses pornographic materials for Masturbation.


UNCONTROLLABLE LUST:

Masturbation, no matter how you look at it is sexual. This is because it involves some sort of sexual activity (whether imaginary or not). For you to successfully masturbate, you must let your mind wander and venture into not only admiring someone but equally wanting them sexually.

Things like that get into our minds and make a home there. It totally disrupts your outlook on things especially those concerning the opposite gender. You might begin to see everyone as a sex tool. At this point, you mostly find your self fantasising over everyone and anyone. This is a very good reason not to get addicted to masturbation.


CHRONIC FATIGUE AND INSOMNIA:

Masturbation leads to excessive presence of Cortisol in the body. Cortisol is the stress hormone. When it is in excess, it can cause fatigue.

In The case of individuals addicted to Masturbation, due to constant craving  of sexual activity, Chronic fatigue might occur. This ultimately affects the individual's sleep; keeping them always tired but restless and with little desire or ability to sleep.


LOW SELF ESTEEM, LONELINESS AND DEPRESSION:

Individuals who are addicted to Masturbation tend to spend most of their time in the privacy of their closets, than in company of people. They always get loneliness and make their phones, laptops, computers and so on- their favourite companion, for easy access to pornography. It totally reduces one's self esteem, because deep down you know something is not right but you just can't open up to anyone.

Masturbation steals time from you as well. Time which would have been valuable for productive and intellectual thinking.It makes you spend most of your time fantasising, more than is necessary, leaving you with guilt, shame and depression.


OVERALL REDUCED FUNCTIONALITY:

Being addicted to masturbation reduces the brain and spinal fluids of acetylcholine, Dopamine and Serotomin; including hormones like testosterone and thyroxine which are neurotransmitters, responsible for human functioning.

These neurotransmitters are also highly important for sexual relations. The damage and depletion caused by masturbation thereof results in symptoms of Bladder and Prostrate Problems, Semen leakage, Enlarged Prostrate and several other symptoms related to sexual Exhausion.

Although still under a lot of argument and speculation, some other reasons not to get Addicted to Masturbation include:

It has been said to affect growth rate

It has been said to cause hair loss

It has been said to cause fuzzy vision

Also, Lower back pain and pelvic cramps

However, Reasons not to get Addicted to Masturbation include but not necessarily limited to those discussed above. In the next post on this series, we shall discuss some tips on how to end one's Addiction to Masturbation.
