STRAIGHT FROM MY HEART : A Poem by Joychinwe
I try to be nice, even when you obviously do not deserve it. I get hurt, yet I smile and go on like nothing happened. You do nothing but get on my last nerve yet I forgive and help you out however I can, whenever you ask for it. It doesn't make me daft, it just means I'd rather forgive and move on... than hold a grudge.
Still, I'm so young to be that strong, for you, for anyone. Somehow, you have become my strongest weakness. After years and years of holding on, today, I'm finally letting go. Took me long enough but I'm finally doing it. Seems hard- no- it is hard but it can't get any worse. Actually it can only get better.
As much as it hurts, I won't stop being kind, I won't stop forgiving, I won't stop trying to forget, I won't stop being there for you whenever you need me. I wouldn't let you make me stop, because if I do that, I have just let you win.
So right now, I'm pouring my heart out, I'm going all out for a taste of the pudding. I will do those things you didn't let me try out before. Take a breathe of fresh air and try to live again. I have every right to live my name- Joy- to live my dream, to just be me. I'm willing to take this risk, as I say to my lonesome self, "take a chance, Joy!".
